Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. You can try to transfer the installation to the new computer. It all depends on which email account you used to activate it and if MS is aware that you no longer work for the original company you may be able to “cheat” on the license terms.

If you made the mistake of using your old company email you are out of luck. If you used your personal email account you may be able to “transfer” it to the new computer. Here is the generic process you need to follow to “remove” the license from the old computer before installing it on the new computer. When it comes to most “activation issues” they are almost always totally incompetent, I mean the definition of the term, not the derogatory way I was going to say IDTs, but that is not nice Actually it was , but why quibble.

The main point being that you have to make sure that Office installation can no longer be used. A “dead” computer is one way to meet that requirement. It is completely local to the computer. Starting with Office , much more so in , MS allows users to have easier and better control of their Office Licenses. IF the old computer was still running, the Office installation would go into “limited function mode” because it was no longer activated.

Still in the MyAccount site on the new computer, find and click on the Install button see install article below. Essentially it is a 3 step process which can all be done from the new computer. The first step is to log in to the MyAccount site on the new computer. If you have an Office subscription or or license, you can deactivate Office on a PC or Mac that you’re no longer using. Deactivating an Office install doesn’t uninstall Office, remove Office documents, or cancel your Office subscription.

It just removes your license from that computer to free it up to use on another computer. It allows read and print only. You cannot save new files or save changes to existing ones. The third step is to install on the new computer. Note: Because this process is done through your web browser, you can deactivate an Office install from any device. It can take up to 72 hours for the Office install to detect that it’s been deactivated.

My laptop crashed and died recently and weren’t able to retrieve my files and had to purchase a new laptop, I was wondering if i still would be able to download the office package i purchased even though it will be on a new laptop. Once Office is installed, you can find the EULA by opening one of the Office programs and getting to a blank page. Installation and Use Rights. The software is licensed, not sold. Under this agreement, we grant you the right to install if you acquired the software from a retailer and run one instance on your device the licensed device , for use by one person at a time, but only if you comply with all the terms of this agreement.

Despite the phrase about acquiring the license from a retailer the HUP license comes directly from Microsoft, not from a retailer , it seems pretty clear that only one installation is allowed. I did not see anything in the EULA that allows installation on more than one device.

I’m in the same situation as the original poster. I had Office installed on both my home desktop computer and Windows tablet. I wish Microsoft would at least allow us to purchase multiple licenses at the HUP price so I could keep both devices up to date. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
