Additionally, I do have a back up, and the same issue exists with those files. The Illustrator program works fine, it’s just the ai files that won’t open, including one just created as a test. Get the same message when trying to open newly created file. Also, when trying to open any ai file, it does give a preview of the file, but followed by the message. While testing also noted that it will not place any file, jpg, eps or other, saying that it is not in a format that can be placed.

Since Illustrator itself is on the disk, it might have been affected as well. You didn’t already reinstall it, did you? Thank you for your response.
